  Great thinking, you know what you're talking about! The sensor of the D810 is so gorgeous, I hope they don't mess it up by going to 40-50 megapixels. It's not just the wide dynamic range, it's also the subtleties such as smooth roll-off at the highlights and noise that looks nice, like grain. Don't lose that gorgeousness please Nikon!

  Nice list. Surprised you didn't mention better implementation of live view. Sure, the D810 is better in that regard than the D800e but it's still not nearly as good and Canon or Sony (the other cams I own).

  Suprised no mention of video auto focusing. To me that's Nikon big let down. Would kill the 5dmk4 of it had it being Nikon does a clean 4K out. Totally agree on button placement to match the d5 ( love mine)
  Do u not use the time mode for long exposures?

  This topic is driving me crazy. I'm a wedding photographer completely in love with my 810. I need a second body and I know the replacement is coming soon but the price on the 810 is coming down too. I know either way is a win win situation I just want to know what is my other option before I make a decision. Hurry up Nikon!!!

  Funny to read what the different wants are for the D800 series, first ones and coming ones.
  I was one of the first to get the D800E, most got the D800 cause they didn't believe in a camera not having the filter. I did research on it. I listened to pro photographers and amateurs and they all pretty much said that it won't work for fibers, feathers, etc. I don't think I had one single photographer standing by me in my preference for the D800E. I even checked out mathematical research on AA filters and other research around it. Technical research guys said to me, go for it. All photographers told me I was stupid and should get a D800. I'm so glad I don't give in to the flock mentality.
  
  Now, I work for an environmental organization so my salary is very low. My photography is wildlife and nature and that kind of photography does not bring in any mother either. So getting a D5 or the likes is just out of question.
  As a wildlife photographer, especially birds, lots of MP is good as you can crop in and still have details, so 36MP is great. But the Dd800 series fails miserably for us wildlife photographers, especially bird photography, in its FPS.
  So the number one wish for me and most in my field is to get much better FPS. Give us 9 FPS at least, preferably 12 FPS or more. So no more MP, instead give better FPS and if possible better noise handling.

  I wish I better high ISO noise management and the focus system to be the same as the D5 or D500. Ahh 4K videosand |I agree with the long exposure bulb.

  More MP is nice but what I really want is more fps (10 fps at least) and low noise high ISO.
  I will be very disappoint if the fps remain at around 6fps.
