My Gear #10 - Phil Thomas

Today we have a nice and simple set up, of a full frame Canon and a nifty 50mm. Tell us why Phil?

My name is Philip Michael Thomas. I am an amateur photographer from Newcastle upon Tyne, England. I like to shoot mostly travel photography. I find it easier and more interesting taking photos in strange new places.

This is my camera set up. All of it. An original Canon 5D, a 50mm f1.8 lens and the all important iPod. This goes with me everywhere. I don't like 'setting up' shots, I prefer just shooting the world as it is and if you're changing lenses or your heavy gear bag is getting left at home, you're gonna miss it.

Over the years I have had loads of different cameras and lenses all based around crop sensors and mid range zooms. I have always wanted to go full frame and as you can pick up a 5D so cheap these days, I just sold all my gear and bought one. I definitely don't regret it, the image quality of this camera is amazing.

I'm using the 50mm partly because it is light and I can't afford L glass yet, but also because I wanted to work on my composition before possibly going back to a zoom lens. But this is all I need for now.

Thanks for getting involved Phil. If you would like to get involved, follow the instructions here.
