I pulled my D300 and 24-70 Nikon lens onto the leg of my computer chair on a bare concrete floor by the rapid strap from my workbench. Checking things the most serious damage was the button on the left, the WB, ISO, and QUAL was hanging by the ribbon cable. Everything seemed to be working so I went to work and managed to carefully repair the switch and after three months is still doing well. A few days later I found the body was also broken in the front below the pop up flash but everything is working as it should. Like you said it all depends on how it lands. My first damaged camera in 11 years. In my opinion a tough product. A new camera is on the horizon just in case.
